AC compressor replacement

A compressor is a major component. Before committing to replacement, understand the diagnosis, the likely failure conditions, and how the repair compares with a complete system option.

When to call S&S

  • A confirmed compressor failure
  • Repeated electrical trips associated with the system
  • An outdoor unit running without effective cooling
  • A major repair estimate you want explained

Understand the cause and the scope

A compressor that will not start is not automatically a failed compressor. Power, controls, starting components, and operating conditions need evaluation. When replacement is appropriate, equipment compatibility and the condition of the remaining refrigerant circuit matter.

Make a confident decision

Ask for a comparison that includes the compressor, labor, refrigerant-related work, other materials, and applicable coverage. A manufacturer-covered part does not necessarily cover the complete repair cost. System age, other failing components, and your plans for the home should inform the decision.

Request the reasoning behind a major component diagnosis

A compressor replacement deserves a clear explanation of the findings. Ask what supports the diagnosis, what related operating conditions were considered, and whether another component or system condition needs correction at the same time. A description of the symptom alone is not the complete repair rationale.

Bring prior electrical or refrigerant repair invoices into the conversation. For an intermittent failure, note whether it followed an outage or happened only after extended operation. You can provide that history without opening the equipment or trying to test electrical components yourself.

Compare the full repair with the system that will remain

List the compressor, associated refrigerant-circuit work, materials, labor, access, and applicable coverage. Ask whether the proposed part is covered and which costs remain your responsibility. Then consider the condition of the indoor coil, outdoor unit, controls, and other retained components.

When replacement is a reasonable alternative, compare complete scopes rather than the price of a compressor against the price of an outdoor unit alone. Ask what risk or known limitation remains after the repair and what the replacement option actually changes. Keep the diagnosis, estimate, and warranty explanation together for the decision.

  • Diagnosed failure and related concerns
  • Complete installed repair cost and coverage
  • Known condition of the remaining equipment
  • Repair scope versus complete replacement scope

Your questions, answered

Can I reset a compressor to fix it?

Follow only the normal operating instructions in your equipment manual. Repeated trips or failed starts need diagnosis. Do not open electrical panels, bypass a safety, or repeatedly reset a breaker.

How do I arrange a visit?

Start with the scheduling page or call 337-287-2132. We confirm your address, service zone, equipment, and available appointment.

How does S&S stand behind the work?

Our standard written workmanship coverage is one year on installations and 90 days on repairs unless a different written term applies. Maintenance requirements and other conditions apply; equipment warranties are separate.

Protect your factory warranty.

Failure to maintain your unit according to the manufacturer’s instructions may void coverage under its 5- or 10-year factory parts warranty. Keep your maintenance records. The manufacturer’s written terms determine your coverage.

S&S replaced the entire HVAC system in my house last week. They were honest, communicative, and ON TIME. Nobody enjoys replacing their system in general, but the experience with S&S was quite refreshing, especially compared to the other more well known companies in town.

Had the best experience with these guys. Our ac went out yesterday evening and thought we had to go stay somewhere for a few days until it got fixed. But i was wrong. S & S HVAC came out within hours with a newer unit and replaced it within a few hours. I 100% recommend these guys they have the best customer service and same day service night or day!

Our air conditioner unit stopped working on a Sunday evening during a holiday weekend, they still came out quickly and got everything taken care of! They are honest, professional, responsive and truly care! Its hard to find companies willing to go above & beyond!

Many thanks to S&S for their quick response and repair of our central AC unit. The replacement was done quickly and professionally. He explained what was going on throughout the process and also took the time to let us know what to watch for moving forward to help keep our AC running properly. They were very reasonably priced, and with the cost of everything these days, you want someone who truly has your best interest in mind. I would highly recommend giving them a shot. They will definitely be the company I use moving forward.

From the first phone call I was impressed with the friendly customer service and clear up front pricing and availability. Scheduled an appointment for 2 days later for preventative maintenance and the tech showed up on time and even though my phone was not working and I couldn't confirm his 7am arrival he still showed up and completed everything and explained and answered all my questions. Very polite and neat. Cleaned and serviced my ac inside and out and has it running more efficiently now.

Yall when I say Gary did not disappoint, we have been having issues with our AC, we finally got to point where ac went completely out- so 2 days no air in 80 degree temperatures, and when I say he came in and got the job done in no time! QUICKEST fix I've experienced, very professional!

Called S&S HVAC AT 8am had a Tech here around 9am. Gary was very polite and knowledgeable, went right to work checking my A/C. Oh, by the way it was raining lightly, Gary didn't mind, he said as long as there wasn't any lightning. Went in the Attic to check main A/C and then went to outside to condensor and found problem, bad capacitor. Put new part and checked entire system and check all vents for temp.
