New-construction HVAC

Plan the comfort system while the home is taking shape. An engineered HVAC plan connects equipment, duct routing, controls, and access with the way the house will be built and used.

When to call S&S

  • A new home or shop
  • A substantial addition
  • Spray-foam or envelope changes
  • A project needing early coordination

Understand the cause and the scope

The building plans, insulation approach, windows, and intended use help shape the design. Coordination before walls and ceilings close can make room for equipment access, return pathways, and drainage. Final selections should be based on project-specific information.

Make a confident decision

Bring available plans and the builder’s schedule. Ask for a scope that defines equipment, distribution, controls, exclusions, and startup. Changes to the building or selections should be addressed before they become installation conflicts.

Bring HVAC decisions into the building plan early

Share the current plans, intended use of each space, insulation approach, windows, ceiling configuration, and available equipment locations. Identify decisions that are still changing. An addition, new house, and separately used shop can have different comfort requirements even when floor areas look similar.

Ask when equipment selection and distribution routing must be coordinated with framing, electrical work, plumbing, and finishes. Keeping these decisions visible early helps the project team address conflicts before access closes and changes become more disruptive.

  • Current plans and revision date
  • Insulation, windows, and intended room use
  • Equipment, duct, return, and drainage locations
  • Builder schedule and other-trade responsibilities

Define design assumptions and change responsibilities

The HVAC scope should identify the building information used, the selected equipment, distribution, controls, and installation responsibilities. Ask what happens if the envelope, floor plan, or use of a room changes. A written revision is easier to follow than a design assumption that no longer matches the house.

ENERGY STAR’s installation guidance emphasizes home-specific selection and coordination of airflow and ducts. Ask how those principles are reflected in the proposed project and what verification and owner information will be provided at completion. Do not assume a price based only on square footage describes the finished comfort system.

Plan handover before the project is finished

Include startup, control orientation, filter information, access needs, registration, and written coverage in the closeout conversation. If more than one system serves the building, have each identified with its model information and the spaces it serves.

Keep the approved changes with the final project documents. The person living in the home should be able to find the operating and maintenance information without reconstructing conversations between the trades.

Your questions, answered

Can you quote only from the square footage?

Square footage alone does not describe the heating and cooling load. A useful estimate depends on more information about the building and scope.

S&S replaced the entire HVAC system in my house last week. They were honest, communicative, and ON TIME. Nobody enjoys replacing their system in general, but the experience with S&S was quite refreshing, especially compared to the other more well known companies in town.

Had the best experience with these guys. Our ac went out yesterday evening and thought we had to go stay somewhere for a few days until it got fixed. But i was wrong. S & S HVAC came out within hours with a newer unit and replaced it within a few hours. I 100% recommend these guys they have the best customer service and same day service night or day!

Our air conditioner unit stopped working on a Sunday evening during a holiday weekend, they still came out quickly and got everything taken care of! They are honest, professional, responsive and truly care! Its hard to find companies willing to go above & beyond!

Many thanks to S&S for their quick response and repair of our central AC unit. The replacement was done quickly and professionally. He explained what was going on throughout the process and also took the time to let us know what to watch for moving forward to help keep our AC running properly. They were very reasonably priced, and with the cost of everything these days, you want someone who truly has your best interest in mind. I would highly recommend giving them a shot. They will definitely be the company I use moving forward.

From the first phone call I was impressed with the friendly customer service and clear up front pricing and availability. Scheduled an appointment for 2 days later for preventative maintenance and the tech showed up on time and even though my phone was not working and I couldn't confirm his 7am arrival he still showed up and completed everything and explained and answered all my questions. Very polite and neat. Cleaned and serviced my ac inside and out and has it running more efficiently now.

Yall when I say Gary did not disappoint, we have been having issues with our AC, we finally got to point where ac went completely out- so 2 days no air in 80 degree temperatures, and when I say he came in and got the job done in no time! QUICKEST fix I've experienced, very professional!

Called S&S HVAC AT 8am had a Tech here around 9am. Gary was very polite and knowledgeable, went right to work checking my A/C. Oh, by the way it was raining lightly, Gary didn't mind, he said as long as there wasn't any lightning. Went in the Attic to check main A/C and then went to outside to condensor and found problem, bad capacitor. Put new part and checked entire system and check all vents for temp.
